it rolled down the hill one night
and hit the town like a pestilence
looming, spread between the treetops
sticky-armed and shiny
heavy air pressing lids shut
clutching dead-tight until noon
I slipped away from your grasp, spiderwoman
your candied arms won’t ever reach again
spider-sprawled across the ceiling
spider-spread across the carpet
spider-spat like a cat’s furball
spitter spatter
pitter patter
evil creature
swinging dizzy from the latch of the attic
I rolled out of bed, turned on the light
and gone you were, crunched on the ground
the sorry little carcass
of misfortune.
